The Pantanal
A Natural Wonder

The Pantanal is the largest tropical wetland on Earth, covering approximately 150,000 square kilometers across Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this extraordinary ecosystem is considered one of the most biologically rich environments on the planet. Unlike dense rainforests where wildlife can be difficult to observe, the Pantanal's open landscapes, rivers, and seasonally flooded plains create some of the best wildlife viewing conditions anywhere in the world. The region is home to more than 3,500 species of plants and animals, including over 650 bird species, more than 150 mammals, around 300 fish species, and over 90 reptiles. This remarkable biodiversity rivals the great African safari destinations, making the Pantanal one of the premier wildlife observation locations on the planet.
During the dry season (June to October), receding waters concentrate animals along rivers, lagoons, and forest edges. This natural phenomenon creates exceptional wildlife encounters and makes the Pantanal widely regarded as the best place in the world to observe jaguars in the wild. Visitors may encounter an astonishing variety of wildlife, including jaguars, giant otters, tapirs, capybaras, caimans, hyacinth macaws, jabiru storks, and hundreds of other bird and mammal species. For photographers, naturalists, and wildlife enthusiasts, the Pantanal offers one of the most immersive safari experiences in the Americas.
